History
Cape Coral was founded in 1957 in a mangrove area. The land was drained
and channels were built. During the firs years today's road "Del Prado"
was a landing strip. The city's area is 114 square-miles big and its 400
channels were dug by enormous machines.
Cape Coral today
Today Cape Coral is a modern city without any high-rise buildings - a beautiful
city in the southwest of Florida. Because of its many channels Cape Coral
is often called America's Venice.
The city is situated on a peninsula and is connected with three bridges
to Fort Myers that is on the mainland. There are many beautiful villas with
pools and landing-stages and a subtropical, prospering vegetation with lots
of flowers and palm trees.
Big streets allow you to quickly reach your destination without getting
stressed.
About 120,000 people live in Cape Coral and the number is increasing by
8000 inhabitants per year and about 8000 inhabitants are German. Cape Coral
is proud of the fact that it organizes America's biggest Oktoberfest that
does not only have originally German beer, but original brass bands from
Munich as well.
Cape Coral -a Golfer´s Paradise
Cape Coral is not only a paradise for golfers but for people who like fishing,
going on a boat trip or water sports as well. There are five golf courses
in the area of Cape Coral and 50 further golf courses in the environment
of Cape Coral.
Cape Coral - an Angler´s Paradise
For a small fee you can buy a temporary fishing-permission in the supermarket.
From our own landing-stage it is only a 12-minute ride to the river. There
you can either stay on the riverside or go to the peaceful lagoons between
the small islands and fish there.
The taste, the flavour and the freshness of these different kinds of fish
that can be served in several ways (fried, grilled etc.) is one of the most
amazing things you will ever taste.
